Directorate of Cooperative, Social and Solidarity Economy

The Directorate of Cooperative, Social and Solidarity Economy (ESS) at Barcelona City Council promotes economic models based on cooperation, sustainability, and citizen participation. Its work focuses on building a diverse, sustainable, and fairer economy by supporting local initiatives that generate a positive social impact.

For five years, we managed its communications across multiple channels, including newsletters, podcasts, videos, the website, social media, interviews, and feature articles. Our goal was to raise the profile of social and solidarity economy initiatives and promote the Barcelona Social and Solidarity Economy Strategy 2030 (Strategy #ESSBCN2030).

At Social COM_, working in collaboration with BRUNA through an inter-cooperation model, we helped showcase local and international projects, raise awareness of the values of the social and solidarity economy, and support the development of new initiatives.

Interviews and Features

Throughout the project, the people driving Barcelona’s social and solidarity economy took centre stage. Each month, our newsletter highlighted a range of initiatives through interviews and feature articles.

These journalistic formats introduced the public to new ways of doing business and created opportunities for people to share, first-hand, the challenges, lessons, and opportunities shaping the social and solidarity economy in Barcelona. The interviews and features became a window into the diversity and richness of the movement, bringing the people behind it to the forefront and giving their stories a voice, significantly expanding the reach of our communications.

Podcast and videos

Using an engaging and accessible format, our podcasts and videos explored topics of interest within the social and solidarity economy. At Social COM_, we helped develop and refine the scripts, as well as writing them, bringing a gender-sensitive and diversity-focused perspective to the co-creation of each piece of content.

Social Media and Website

One of our most dynamic responsibilities was managing social media, where we promoted the services, projects, and initiatives of the social and solidarity economy. We worked to build a strong digital community by publishing engaging, consistent, and purposeful content. We also managed website news updates and the monthly email newsletter.

Shall we talk and give your project a new direction?
