ProperESS, la Comunalitat dels Barris de Sant Andreu
ProperESS is a socioeconomic transformation programme that works to relocalise the economy through the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) and other forms of collective action. It promotes mutual support among community-focused projects and aims to improve quality of life in the neighbourhoods of Sant Andreu.
Its goal is to strengthen communities and equip them to face the multiple crises affecting our society, including climate change, wars, large-scale migration, declining purchasing power, and the persecution of minority groups through hate speech.
For almost three years, Social COM_ has supported ProperESS with its website and social media communications. We have also assisted the technical secretariat in developing community agreements through assemblies and meetings. In addition, we have provided editorial support, with a particular focus on shaping the programme’s ideas and approach into clear, effective written messages.

Editorial Design
At Social COM_, following a community-led process within ProperESS, we carried out the copy-editing and design of the Guia de Cures per les Xarxes de Suport Mutu (Care Guide for Mutual Support Networks). The guide outlines the key elements needed to sustain Mutual Support Networks (XSM), with the fundamental aim of protecting people’s lives and health. It serves as an essential tool for promoting the well-being of members involved in collective work and community action.
The main challenge was to ensure that the writing fully reflected the community’s ideas and proposals, giving a voice to lived experience and translating it into accessible language.
Design and Social Media
We designed the leaflet What Is an Energy Community and What Is It For? to promote one of the cooperative’s events. The aim was to translate complex concepts, such as collective self-consumption, into clear, accessible language, helping the public understand the value of energy communities.
We also managed and facilitated the cooperative’s social media channels, working to build cohesive communities and strengthen relationships with audiences in line with the project’s identity and values. This communications work not only increased the cooperative’s visibility but also strengthened participants’ sense of belonging — a key factor in the long-term sustainability of any community initiative.
What brought us together with ProperESS was a shared vision of the social and solidarity economy and community-led projects: the belief that cooperation and participation are the foundations for transforming our communities.
