Stichting International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI)

IAVI is a global non-profit biomedical research organisation with a presence in Africa, India, Europe, and the United States. Its team brings together scientists, researchers, activists, advocacy professionals, management experts, and other specialists, all working towards a common goal: accelerating the development of solutions to some of the infectious diseases that continue to pose a global challenge.

IAVI has extensive experience in the discovery, development, and clinical research of vaccines and antibodies targeting HIV, tuberculosis, and emerging infectious diseases.

Founded in 1996, IAVI was established with an ambitious mission: to develop a safe, affordable, and globally accessible HIV vaccine. While this goal continues to drive its work, IAVI is also exploring new prevention strategies, recognising that effective tools alone are not enough unless they can reach everyone who needs them.

Press and publicity:

Bringing Science Closer to Society

At Social COM_, we have supported several of these initiatives, bringing our expertise in communications, public affairs, and media relations, with an approach focused not only on raising awareness but also on creating opportunities for dialogue and collaboration around research and development (R&D).

Our work aims to turn scientific advances into compelling stories that reach the media, institutions, and the public, helping highlight the value of research and strengthen public debate on innovation and health.

One of our key projects involved organising and coordinating communications activities to share progress in vaccine development, combining press releases, media relations, and interviews with leading scientists and industry professionals.

One particularly noteworthy example was our work in 2024 on MTBVAC, the Spanish tuberculosis vaccine, which was advancing towards the final stages of clinical development.

Our communications focused on the vaccine’s potential as part of international efforts to tackle tuberculosis, highlighting features such as its ease of use, potential affordability, and prospects for large-scale availability.

As part of this strategy, Social COM_ coordinated the distribution of press releases and arranged an interview with Ana Céspedes, IAVI’s Global Chief Operating Officer and a member of its global leadership team.

This work is rooted in a simple yet essential principle: advancing science also means ensuring that scientific breakthroughs are known, understood, and become part of public and policy discussions.

Shall we talk and give your project a new direction?
